You’re undoubtedly heard about people getting great deals on items they bought through eBay. If you’re a bit envious and ready to try your hand, here’s your chance to learn more.

Exactly What Is An eBay?

It’s an online auction website, in fact the biggest one in the world. You know how an auction works — someone puts up something they want to sell and then buyers come along and place bids on it. The highest bid wins the item.

Being an online auction makes eBay a bit different, though. eBay accepts almost any item, no matter how small, and will then advertise it on their sites all over the world.

How Does Bidding On eBay Work?

Bidding on eBay is a little more complex than a normal auction. On eBay, you enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay for an item, and then eBay places the bids on your behalf. You could enter a maximum bid of $100 for something, and end up paying only $25, if that was sufficient to win.

The best introduction to eBay is to dive in and give it a try. First, you need to go to the eBay website for your country. If you don’t know the address, just go to www.ebay.com and you will find it. Once you have the front page of your country’s website, you should see a big box marked “esearch.” Just type into the box anything that you’d like to buy.

When you enter an item, say an opal ring, the website gives you a list of opal rings for sale, along with how much people are currently bidding for them, and the time when bidding ends for that item. Click on each of the listed items, and you can read the description. If you find an item you want, and are willing to pay more than the current highest bidder, then it’s time to enter the fray.

How Can I Buy What I Want?

On the item’s description page, scroll down to the bottom and type the maximum you are willing to pay into the box. Then click the “eplace bid” button. At this point you will need to sign in, or go through a quick registration process if you are new.

eBay will let you know if someone else’s maximum bid on that item is higher than yours, and you’ll have an opportunity to change your bid. Otherwise, you’re now the new highest bidder! You can sit back and wait until the end of the auction. Meanwhile, if someone else outbids you, eBay will notify you by email, and you can revise your bid.

Sounds like a fun shopping experience, doesn’t it? Well, if you’re ready, it’s time to jump into the eBay.

I hope you have not had a negative experience on ebay. I was very much enjoying the site until one day, some freak tried to steal nearly 200 from selling me an item which did not exist. This article explains what happened and also the advice the police gave to me.

As I have already mentioned I was having lots of fun buying and selling on Ebay for a number of months without any problems at all. I regularly sold second hand mobile phones and was doing very well for myself. If I ever bought anything that cost over 100, I would offer to meet the seller somewhere, normally just off the motorway. I pulled off what I believed was some good deals and also managed to offload some of my unwanted items which I either had no interest in anymore or that I had no longer a need for.

Unfortunately all good things have to come to an end and it certainly did with ebay.

One particular morning I was looking to purchase another second hand mobile phone, which I would then re-sell on. There was an advert for a buy it now phone with the asking price low but not extremely low.

There was a mobile number to phone if I had any questions. I decided to phone the number, his name was Tony and I asked him the general type questions. He sounded and seemed really nice, however stated that he was unable to meet me as he was unable to drive as he had not past his test. The alarm bells should have already started to ring, but me being a bit stupid they didn’t.

His house was a long way from where I lived and reluctantly I agreed to pay via a bank transfer. He assured me he would post the phone, that very day via Royal Mail Special Delivery to arrive by 11am the next morning. He seemed very genuine, they always do your thinking and that was that.

Next morning have a guess what arrived, yes nothing at all, nor the next day, nor the next.

I tried e-mailing him, texting and ringing his mobile phone, guess what, there was no reply.

I realised what a fool I had been, however decided to go to the police. They were very helpful and half an hour later I had a crime number however was warned that it was very unlikely I would ever see a phone or recieve a refund of my money which was 170. The police advised me to be very careful as they regularly have complaints from people who have been defrauded on ebay, I was not alone!

Outside the police station I sent Tony a text with the police crime number. To my shock he phoned me straight away swearing at me but eventually agreed to refund me the money, if I stopped the police action against him.

I was very lucky, I am sure many other people as the police stated, never get their money back.

Have you ever wondered how people that sell products on eBay are able to market products there and make money?

The first thing you have to do is look for quality items, because nothing will kill your business faster than inferior products when marketing on eBay. But even if you are looking for products for yourself you want the best you can get for a good price, right?

Well, the big secret, if you can call it that is to know where to go to find great bargains on items that they resell on eBay. The great thing about it is you can also use these secret spots to get great deals on things that you want to keep for yourself!

So are you ready for the secret? There are many wholesalers online where you can get the same kind of deals that the eBay power sellers get. It really doesnt matter what you are looking for and it doesnt matter whether you are looking for items to keep or to resell on eBay, you will find name brand manufacturers for as much as 80% below retail! The thing to remember is that some of their items are at prices so low that the quantity they have available may be limited.

You can Mens Fall Fashions from famous makers like Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren for as much as 66% off the retail price! Try finding deals like that locally.

Now that the weather is colder you may want to replace those cold cotton sheets with some nice, warm flannel ones. You can find those up to 70% right now at wholesale websites online.

Are you planning on doing some Holiday entertaining this year? So are we!
You can find great bargains on anything from holiday platters to complete stoneware or china sets all at discounts of 35 70% off normal retail prices.

I dont care if you are buying for yourself or buying to sell on eBay; those are deals you will have a hard time finding anywhere. This knowledge can really level the playing field for people who want their own eBay business.

You may be wondering to yourselfCollective shopping, what the heck is that? Really, theres not too much to it. Collective shopping is simply shopping smarter, that is shopping in places that you can compare prices.

Everyone knows that if you look hard enough, you will find good deals on the things that you want. However, this can be a very time consuming and frustrating task to undertake. Thats where collective shopping comes into play. Dont waste your time searching through bunch of different sites searching for one thing. Search for it all from one site. There are sites out there that bring many major shopping and auction sites into one easy to use site so that you can shop more quickly and more efficiently. I like to call these Collective Shopping Sites. This is a great example of a collective shopping site Number1auctions . It brings many major shopping sites together, plus a few that you may not even know about but could have the lowest prices.

Once you have found your preferred Collective Shopping Site bookmark it and use it every time you shop online. You will save enormous amounts of time and youll be getting the best possible price on the items you need and want. The internet is an extremely useful tool, but that doesnt mean that it has to use up all your time! So don’t just shop online, shop smart, shop collectively.

Most people think of eBay as a place where they can change some of their old junk into cash, gaining some money from what otherwise might have ended up taking a trip to the dump. There are those, however, who have recognized the money making potential of eBay and brought it to a whole new level: the power seller.

Power sellers on eBay have various methods of going about turning a tidy profit. They may employ age old methods such as beachcombing and garage saling in order to gain a large stockpile of inventory that they can then turn around and sell at the worlds largest auction at a handsome profit. Power sellers may also offer to sell other peoples goods on the eBay market place for a percentage of the profit or an up front fee. Regardless of their method, power sellers often find themselves making quite a bit of money simply by using the potential of the site to its fullest.

The existence of the eBay professional is certainly no joke or figment of the imagination; there are over 700,000 individuals who make this their full time job, with another million supplementing their income through more casual eBay sales. These professionals have learned the ins and outs of the eBay system, and most understand the best ways to sell products for top dollar.

The fact that the professionals have been in the market for so long should not discourage any new entrepreneur from taking the same steps themselves. The fact is, eBay is so huge, with over 1.4 billion items listed in 2005 and three million auctions closing every day, that it could stand a lot more competition before the professional selling business became cut throat.

There are also ample resources to assist a prospective eBay power seller in starting up their new venture. Many books have been written already about successfully and strategically creating auctions, including where to list certain items, what is hot, what is not, and how to go about finding buyers.

As with any business, one of the keys to eBay is to keep your clients happy. EBay operates through feedback, and this feedback is essential both for buyers and sellers in order to retain and evaluate the legitimacy of the business or the offer. Unlike other bid sites, however, eBay also offers a regulated feedback system, in order that professionals do not take a hit to their bottom line because some disgruntled buyer ended up being unhappy with the final price they paid, or they felt that the seller was too pushy when it came to asking for payment.

An eBay power seller has hit upon a fun way to make some extra cash or even to earn a good full time income, without having to go out and invest in advertisements or finding a clientele. EBay brings clients from around the world to your product, and it is just a matter of getting the word to them that you have something that they will need.

EBay has opened up a whole new world in terms of monetary gain and the elimination of household clutter. Time was that if you found that your house was simply getting too crowded, the day when the attic door just refused to open over your head or the garage was just too stuffed to fit your vehicle, you had no choice but to make a trip to the dump or await the summer garage sale season in order to get rid of some of the clutter.

The advent of eBay changed all of that, however. Now you can eliminate the clutter around your house without the waste involved in a trip to the dump or the iffy prospects of selling at a garage sale. All you need is an Internet connection and your junk could turn into someone elses treasure.

EBay works on the old adage that if the customer base is big enough, a seller will always be able to sell any item, no matter how obscure. This has certainly proved true so far in the short history of eBay, where three million auctions close every single day, in every area conceivable. You might find it hard to believe, but the auction environment is such that that pile of old National Geographic magazines that you have might fetch close to their original value or even higher on the site. There are so many opportunities that some people have made a business out of becoming eBay Power Selling professionals, with some stores netting $1,000 a day!

In order to make eBay work for you, you have to use the right approach both in your marketing and in avoiding common eBay pitfalls. One great way to ensure sales is to purchase or borrow a digital camera to take pictures of your goods- items that have accompanying pictures are much more likely to sell, and at a higher price, than are ones that are placed without a visual aid. Buyers can see what the product is like, including the condition it is in, and thus the chance they are taking is much lower.

In terms of pitfalls, most of the deals that go bad on eBay are avoidable if you have a good heads up. The first issue, of course, is one of non-payment. If you have sold an item on eBay to a buyer who just refuses to pay, a simple task can become an arduous exercise in collections, and might even end up costing you money. In order to avoid a non-payment scenario, it is crucial to set up a payment option before you ship the goods. If the buyer refuses to pay you, all you have to do is relist the item and start another auction.

Other eBay pitfalls mostly revolve around bad payments. Bad checks, credit card fraud, international fraud, and credit card charge backs are all part of the Internet selling process. All of these situations can now be avoided, however, by requesting payment through the eBay developed Pay Pal. Pay Pal is a great way to receive money from the sale of goods immediately, and also incorporates a dispute resolution system in the event that the buyer or seller is unhappy with the outcome of the sale.

As with any market, trading on eBay is not without its hassles and snags.

First of all, it should be duly noted that eBay is an online market/transaction facilitator. It merely becomes a means for the buyer and the seller to meet.

Because of its online nature, eBays auction listing provides the buyers with a wide selection of goods. The buyers are also enabled to review the seller through the sellers feedback rating. This helps the buyer decide whether or not to pursue the trade.

The sellers on the other hand, benefit from a wider audience due to the popularity of the Internet and eBay. eBay enables them to post easily, quickly, and extensively.

When eBay connects buyer and seller, the transactions truly begin as well as the headaches.

Even with the automated nature of most of todays transactions, eBay is still built on the basic foundation of trading: trust.

A good deal of trust is involved in eBay trading. The buyer has to trust that the seller is listing a legitimate item, and that he or she will deliver that item when paid. The seller, on the other hand, has to trust the buyer to pay fully and without any hidden catches.

Here are a few of the problems one may encounter when using eBay.

- Seller does not deliver product

This is a buyers biggest fear. However, it is also one of the most common snags buyers encounter. Usually, when closing a deal, the seller will email purchase instructions to the buyer. This will usually include instructions for payment. The seller will then promise to have the item delivered upon receipt of payment.

If the buyer, after fulfilling his or her part, does not receive the item within the agreed upon date, he or she should immediately try contacting the seller. If this proves to be fruitless, he or she should file a complaint with eBay for assistance regarding the transaction.

- Seller delivers a different/defective product

Sometimes the trading is smooth. Everything goes according to schedule. However, upon receipt of the item, the buyer finds out that the item is significantly different from its description on eBay.

What should the buyer do about this?

Good communication between the buyer and seller usually brings about a speedy and satisfying end to any trading dispute. This should always be the first step when handling a dispute.

- Seller cannot be contacted for questions when closing deal

Most disputes come about due to miscommunication between seller and buyer. But if the seller can not be contacted, that presents a bigger problem for the buyer especially if that person has already fulfilled payment of the item. Contacting eBay may help to resolve this problem and they are sometimes willing to supply further information about the seller.

Sniping always occurs when a bid is about to end.
Sniping is against the rules at eBay, but in most cases, even if you report it, the sniper will get away with it. In order to avoid losing the items you want to snipers at eBay, you have to take on the sniper way of thinking. You also need to snipe in a way that will not violate eBay’s rules.

Snipping can be done in one of two ways. The first way is the safest, but not necessarily the easiest.
Simply keep up with the item you are bidding on.
And make certain that you are in front of your computer and logged into the auction well before that exact time. The idea is to either bid higher than the highest bid during the last few seconds – which is what snipers do – or to just make sure that you are not outbid by a sniper.

Keep in mind that sniping is against the rules, so you should log in about thirty or forty five minutes before the bidding ends, and get your bid up until it is the highest bid. If you’ve been logged in for a while, this cannot be considered sniping.

Unfortunately it is very hard to bid against people who use bidding software. So here is the second method.

Snipping services are easy to find online, and they are fairly cheap. You can also buy your own snipping software. If you want to become a sniper, purchasing your own software is usually the best way to go if you bid on a lot of items.

But remember that it is against the rules, and while eBay hardly ever enforces this rule, you will be running the risk of getting banned from eBay.

Outbidding somebody is one thing, sniping is something altogether different.

In the early days of internet auctions you were much more likely to be conned than you are today. Figures from the National Fraud Information Center for the year 2000 stated that 78% of Internet fraud at that time took place on online auction sites. Since then the big sites have taken major steps to make their auctions safer places for their users.

Although it is safer to buy online from auctions today, you still need to be careful when transacting in internet auctions. Here are some tips to ensure you don’t get taken advantage of.

Buy from sellers with good feedback scores as this is one of your best protections. This is a feature of internet auctions which can’t be compared by other online retailers. This independent rating system will give you a very good indication of which sellers can be trusted. Ensure the seller has carried out enough selling auctions for it to be a reliable indicator.

Pay by credit card, which is usually the safest method. That way, if you have any problems you can seek redress through your credit card provider. This is a facility you wouldn’t normally have when buying from a private individual, so use this extra security feature of online auctions.

Use the big name auction sites because they want to protect their reputation. That means they’ll take any fraud complaints seriously and deal with the culprits quickly because it’s in their best interest to do so. Stay away from the small sites that nobody’s heard of.

Make sure you know exactly what the product or service you’re buying is worth to you. Do this right from the start and you’ll be in a better position to make sure you don’t overbid and end up paying more than the item’s worth. There are plenty of people who’ll testify to having been caught up in a bidding frenzy. Auctions can be exciting and addictive, but it doesn’t make sense to pay more for items at an auction than those that can readily be bought elsewhere.

When you place a bid you have entered into a contract with the seller. Think before you bid. Don’t place a bid if you don’t really want the item. If you don’t that bright orange, floral bathroom sink could be yours!

Remember that expression that says buying on internet auction sites – if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Have a great time – but be careful!
